NYCFC Announces Signing of Argentine Midfielder Gastón Passari to Boost Playmaking Abilities
New York City Football Club (NYCFC) has made a savvy move in the transfer market, announcing the signing of highly-regarded Argentine midfielder Gastón Passari. The 25-year-old attacking midfielder joins the club on a four-year contract, effective July 1st, pending International Transfer Certificate (ITC) approval.
Passari, a product of the Racing Club youth academy, has been in top form in recent seasons, impressing fans and coaches alike with his vision, passing range, and goal-scoring ability. The midfielder has racked up an impressive 12 goals and 15 assists in 75 appearances for Club Atlético Tijuana in Liga MX, the top division of Mexican football.
"We are thrilled to welcome Gastón to the club," said NYCFC Sporting Director, David Taylor. "He’s a talented playmaker with a great understanding of the game, and we believe he’ll be a fantastic addition to our midfield. His ability to create chances and score goals from midfield will be a valuable asset for us as we look to build on our success in recent seasons."
The signing of Passari is seen as a coup for the Bronx-based club, which has been searching for a creative forcing to bolster its midfield. With the departure of Alexander Ring to Columbus Crew, NYCFC found itself lacking a central midfielder with the vision and passing range to create opportunities for its attacking players.
"Gastón is a player who can control the tempo of the game and create chances for our forwards," added Coach Dom Dwyer. "We’re excited to see him integrate into the team and make an impact in our attacking play."
Passari, a native of Vicente López, Argentina, joins a growing list of international talent at NYCFC, which has acquired players from across the globe, including talisman Jack Harrison, the highly-regarded creative midfielder from England. The signing is seen as a long-term investment by the club, with Passari’s contract running through the 2025-26 season.
As the mid-year transfer window opens, NYCFC fans can look forward to seeing Passari take to the field on July 16th, when the team hosts Atlanta United at Yankee Stadium. With the added creativity and playmaking abilities of the Argentine midfielder, the future looks bright for the Pigeons, who hope to build on their impressive 2019 season and contend for top honors in Major League Soccer.
