Chelsea told to add experience to squad

Pundit Danny Murphy has opened up and told CHELSEA that they need to delve into that transfer kitty and add some more experience to the side over the next couple of transfer windows.

At 23.5-years-old, Chelsea have on average the youngest squad in the Premier League, which can partly explain their inconsistent results over the past few seasons.

Chelsea have been impressive at times this season, but their inconsistent form has meant that they are probably no longer in the hunt to win that Premier League title, and Murphy thinks they need to add some experience to the side, telling BBC Radio 5 Live: ‘It’s game management where Chelsea are lacking at times.

‘Chelsea are lacking an experienced player who can help their game management which has cost them vital points in the Premier League title race.

‘They need to know when to slow things down, having some men drop off, having someone sitting alongside Moises Caicedo in the base of midfield, instead of this constant trying to go forward.

‘Against Fulham, it was similar to today. It ended up being end to end and like a basketball game towards the end, and they lost.

‘There is still the quality there, and they are a young side. I still think they will be strong in the second half of the season.’

There is no doubt that this CHELSEA side could develop into a title challenging side over the next few seasons, but with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City all going to improve over the next few years, they need to add experience.

This talent is for the future, but we have seen in many recent seasons that a blend of experience and youth is what will bring that Premier League title.
