Arsenal news gossip: Martinelli – Rashford

Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews that we think you guys may have missed today…

Emmanuel Petit has identified the three signings Mikel Arteta needs to make in January to kick-start ARSENAL ’s season and admits he is getting ‘frustrated’ and ‘annoyed’ by Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal started the season in consistent fashion and looked like the favourites to win that Premier League title away from Manchester City this season, but it is now Liverpool that lead the race for that Title.

Arsenal have seen injuries, poor performances and suspensions stop the club from performing like many fans had hoped this season, and the fact that Arsenal are missing a 30 goal striker is something the club would like to address.

As well as signing a new goalscorer, Petit believes his former club should also be looking to bring a left-winger and attacking midfielder to the Emirates Stadium, as the Frenchman admits he is growing frustrated with current winger Martinelli, who has only reached double figures once over the past five seasons and has missed a number of chances this term.

‘Arsenal don’t just need a striker, I think they needed at least three or four more players last summer,’ Petit told DisCasino. ‘They still need a left-winger, a striker and an attacking midfielder.

‘This January transfer market is tough, though. It will be very hard to find good opportunities to sign good players for a reasonable price.

‘I don’t think it’s part of Mikel Arteta’s policy to sign players for an absurd amount of money.’

Martinelli is hit and miss, that is what ARSENAL fans are used too, but that could be because he is still learning the game and developing, he is still a very young player.

However – there are far too many positions that Arsenal need to improve on because there have been far too many poor performances from the club this season, and that is why they are not closer to Liverpool right now.

ARSENAL TOLD SIGN RASHFORD

Former Gunners star Emmanuel Petit has opened up and claimed that ARSENAL should look into signing out of favour Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford this January transfer window.

Rashford has not played for United for nearly a month now and several weeks on from saying he wanted a “new challenge”. The England international is reportedly more likely to leave on loan in January, with AC Milan among the sides keeping tabs on him.

However – amid all the speculation and rumours that Arsenal are interested in adding to the squad this January, Petit has told the Gunners that they should add the England winger to the attack: ‘Marcus Rashford would be an interesting signing for Arsenal,’ Petit said.

‘I’m very frustrated with Gabriel Martinelli’s performances at the moment, he’s very inconsistent and it’s annoying to watch. He’s been like a ghost on the pitch.

‘Competition for a spot in the XI is important for Arsenal, look at Liverpool’s bench, the quality they have is amazing.

‘I know Nico Williams has been linked, but I’m told he’ll never come to the Premier League if he leaves Athletic Bilbao, he’d only go to Barcelona.

‘The Raheem Sterling gamble has not worked. Rashford, if he’s in the team and playing football in a good environment with a manager who trusts him, you will see the best of him.

‘Is that manager Mikel Arteta? If I’m him, I would definitely have an eye on that situation at Manchester United.

‘He’s not the same player from two years ago, but we all know the level he can reach, quality like that doesn’t just disappear.’

We believe that Rashford needs a complete change of scenery, his time in the Premier League is done and he would not be a regular starter at ARSENAL – the best thing for him is to leave the English top-flight and see what experience a different culture.

ARAUJO WANTS PREM MOVE

ARSENAL have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Ronald Araujo, with the defender ‘prioritising’ a move to the Premier League should he decide to leave Barcelona this January or at the end of the season.

Araujo has made over 150 appearances in all competitions for Barca since joining from Uruguayan outfit Boston River for a fee of just £1.5million back in 2017, and has firmly established himself as a regular at the heart of the club’s defence.

A serious hamstring problem meant Araujo missed the first half of this season and he made his long-awaited return in Barca’s 4-0 victory over Barbastro in the Copa del Rey last weekend, but there has been reports that he is one player that could be moved on.

Barcelona are struggling financially and have been linked with selling a number of players in order to help balance the books, and keep players at the club that they really want to build a future with.

The La Liga giants would be reluctant to accept a loan deal this winter but ‘will not close the door’ on a permanent transfer should they receive a ‘very considerable and irresistible’ offer, according to Mundo Deportivo,

The report states that Araujo has been open with his team-mates in the Barcelona dressing room that he is strongly considering a January move – and if he does depart, he will prioritise a move to England.

ARSENAL have one of the best defences in the Premier League, they are rock solid and adding to that may mean that someone has to sit on the bench more often than they would like.

Araujo would be a quality signing, but he is a player that Arsenal are probably not interested in signing because they have quality in depth in that area of the squad.
