Arsenal news gossip: Arteta – Nunez

Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews that we think you may have missed today…

ARSENAL have announced that that Laila Harbert has put pen to paper on her first professional contract with the club, and the midfielder is very happy about her first big deal.

The Gunners posted on the club website: ‘The 18-year-old defensive midfielder and England under-17s captain joined our academy at the age of nine in 2016 and has since gone on to win several trophies with our under-16s and under-21s teams.

‘Laila made her debut appearance for the first team in May 2024, coming off the bench in our exhibition game against A-League All-Stars Women in Melbourne. Laila also took part in our pre-season tour in Washington D.C this summer, where she came on in the 78th minute to help secure a 2-1 win against Washington Spirit.

‘In addition to her development with our academy and first-team squads, Laila gained valuable experience as part of a dual-registration agreement with Barclays Women’s Championship club Watford during the 2023/24 season, making 14 appearances for The Hornets.

‘An experienced England youth international, Laila has had a particularly exciting year as captain of the under-17 Lionesses. This summer, Laila led the team at the UEFA European Championships in Sweden as they reached their first-ever final before missing out to Spain. A few months later, in October, Laila then captained the team to a fourth-place finish at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.’

Harbert said: “It’s such a proud moment, not only for me, but my family and everyone else who helped me get here as well,” she said. “So, it’s a really nice feeling.

“I think there’s definitely been challenges along the way, playing up age groups, training with the boys, but ultimately, they just helped me get out my comfort zone. And it’s a real credit to the club to see so many of us coming through now.

“I’m really proud of us, and to be on this journey together is so special. Originally, we got a bit of stick for sticking together on our kids table, but now we’ve found our own and settled so it’s really nice.”

ARSENAL FREE TO SIGN DARWIN NUNEZ

Liverpool are willing to sell ARSENAL target Darwin Nunez if their valuation for the Uruguayan is met in the coming weeks or at the end of the season, stunning reports have claimed in the media this week

Nunez has blown hot and cold since his move to Liverpool , and is constantly criticised for wasting a host of chances and finding himself out of the starting XI for significant spells.

It is no secret that Arne Slot is not 100 per cent sure that Nunez is the man that will lead that Liverpool attack in the long run, there has been some rumours that Liverpool are lining up possible alternatives, meaning that there may be a chance to sign Nunez in the coming windows.

And with reports that Arsenal are still keen to add another striker to the attack, there has been some stunning reports that the Gunners could make a move for a player that they were interested in before he made the move to Liverpool

According to Football Insider, a bid between £50m-£60m would likely be given the green light for a Nunez exit.

Amid all the speculation, former Gunners star Jermeie Aliadiere recently opened up and encouraged the Gunners to make a move for the striker: ‘I know he is at Liverpool but I am a massive fan of Darwin Nunez,’ Aliadiere told Football365.

‘Absolutely mad fan of the guy because I love his work ethic, his runs, his determination and I wish we had a player like him at Arsenal.

‘I remember in the summer there were some talks about him coming to Arsenal. That excited me because I’d love to see him with us.

‘That type of player, keeps bothering defenders, making runs in behind, stretching the defence, even though it’s not for him, it’s for the team, the others get massive rewards from it.

‘I know people will say he needs five chances to score sometimes, he is not the best finisher, I am not bothered about this. For me, the effort and the work rate and the drama that he causes is worth everything.’

Liverpool will not want to sell to ARSENAL, but for the right money, anything is possible. But we doubt this will ever happen as Mikel Arteta probably already has a few stars on his shopping list, and we are sure Nunez is not one of them.

We are shocked to see that Nunez is one of the players that Arne Slot is interested in selling over the next couple of transfer windows and we would surely be shocked to see him leave.

JONATHAN DAVID MOVE MADE?

Reports have claimed that there have been approaches from Premier League clubs for Jonathan David, a player that ARSENAL have been linked with signing over the past few months.

The Canadian forward has emerged as a potential transfer target for Arsenal over the past few months, as the Gunners will be desperate to add a new striker to that attack in the next couple of transfer windows

Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen of Napoli are two other players that Arsenal are reportedly interested in – but David would represent a cheaper alternative to the other two as his contract is coming to an end at the end of the season and the Blues could land him for a bargain in January, or free at the end of the season.

That is because Arsenal are now free to hold talks with players from other Leagues in order to agree a pre-contract agreement for the end of the season. According to Sky Sports, four unnamed Premier League clubs have approached the player’s camp over a pre-contract agreement.

The Gunners will need to make sure that they sign players that can make an immediate impact – big named players that will send a message to the rest of the Premier League – David is very good.

It will be very interesting to see just who Arsenal try and sign in the January window – but we do believe that David is not the answer to the clubs problems as he does have the potential to be a great striker.

He has the movement and energy that Mikel Arteta wants in that attack – and for nothing he would be a real bargain.

If ARSENAL seriously want to sign Jonathan David – then now is the best time to get a transfer deal done for the player – there may not be another chance for the Gunners
