Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Aaronson, Turner, and more

FC Utrecht’s impressive Eredivisie campaign continued on Sunday with Paxten Aaronson helping the club to a statement road victory.

Aaronson scored his fifth goal of the season as FC Utrecht defeated Feyenoord 2-1 away from home. The result kept the visitors in third place in the league table, four points clear of Sunday’s opponents.

After a goal-less first half, FC Utrecht took swift advantage of the match at the hour mark. Niklas Versterlund broke the deadlock in the 60th minute before Aaronson called his own number five minutes later, doubling the visitors lead at 2-0.

Santiago Gimenez pulled a consolation goal back for Feyenoord but FC Utrecht would hang on for a first head-to-head win since 2021.

Aaronson led all players with five tackles completed, while also winning six duels and making three defensive recoveries. The 21-year-old has continued to play a large role on loan this season and will aim to continue that impact into the spring months.

FC Utrecht will next travel to RKC Waalwijk in KNVB Cup action midweek.

In England, Tyler Adams helped Bournemouth advance in the FA Cup. Matt Turner helped Crystal Palace to a shutout win over Stockport County.

In Germany, Noahkai Banks made his Bundesliga debut for Augsburg. Joe Scally and Borussia Moenchengladbach lost to Bayern Munich.

In Spain, Johnny Cardoso went the distance but Real Betis fell at Rayo Vallecano.

In France, Tanner Tessmann and Lyon lost at Stade Brest.

In Italy, Christian Pulisic started but AC Milan tied Cagliari. Weston McKennie went the distance for Juventus in a 1-1 Turin derby draw vs. Torino.

Elsewhere, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty started together as Celtic defeated Ross County. Frankie Amaya featured off of the bench as Toluca picked up three points on the road.

Phallon Tullis-Joyce started, made ZERO SAVES, and played 90 minutes in Manchester United’s 7-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Catarina Macario started and played 45 minutes in Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Charlton Athletic on Sunday.

Emily Fox and Arsenal’s scheduled match with Bristol City was postponed on Sunday.

Mia Fishel is OUT (Injury) for Chelsea.
