Osimhen – Delap – Marquinhos feature in Arsenal news now

Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews that we think you guys could have missed today…

Pundit Micah Richards has urged ARSENAL to sign a striker that could make an immediate impact on the side for the remainder of the season, as the Gunners crashed out of the FA Cup to Manchester United.

With Arsenal suffering persistent issues in their attack, often opting for Kai Havertz in a false nine role due to the absence of a traditional striker, Mikel Arteta has faced calls to add a proven goalscorer to his squad — but he has yet to make the move in the market, which continues to haunt him.

This was highlighted once more as Arsenal succumbed to defeat in Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Manchester United, dominating play yet failing to capitalized on their opportunities, inevitably leading to demands to buy a new striker.

Then Gabriel Jesus pick up an injury which could keep him out of the side for a while, and with Mikel Arteta now facing fresh calls to sign a new forward in the January transfer Richards has suggested that Arsenal should sign a striker who could make an immediate impact such as Victor Osimhen.

‘It’s hard, you can’t just go out and get a No.9, there’s not that many in world football,’ Richards said.

‘The one I looked at as maybe short term was Osimhen. The problems he’s had at Napoli, he’s been allowed to go on loan in Türkiye.

‘But he’s a proven goalscorer at that level, in the Champions League as well.

‘Obviously, I’m sure Arsenal would like to have someone like Isak.’

The January window has been open for two weeks now and Arsenal have been making no moved to get any transfer deals done, and the fact that Osimhen doesnt want to move at this stage of the season, getting the Nigerian star could be very difficult.

ARSENAL do need to sign a striker this January, but with a few weeks to go, they need to start making moves or they will not win anything again this season.

MARQUINHOS HAPPY WITH CRUZEIRO MOVE

Brazilian striker and ARSENAL star Marquinhos has admitted that the decision to join Cruzeiro until until the end of the Brazilian Serie A season in December is a very good one to make.

Marquinhos has only made six appearances for Arsenal since joining Arteta’s side two-and-a-half years ago, scoring one goal and setting up another against FC Zurich in the Europa League in September 2022.

The 21-year-old had only just returned from a temporary spell with Fluminense during the 2024 Brasileiro season, where he registered two goals and two assists in 29 matches across all competitions.

But rather than re-integrate Marquinhos into his first-team squad, Mikel Arteta gave the green light for another loan exit for the attacker, his fourth since joining the Gunners in a £3m deal from Sao Paulo in 2022.

And after seeing the move happen, Marquinhos opened up and revealed that he is very happy to have made the loan move to Cruzeiro after experiencing life in Europe, he said: ‘Everyone has a dream of playing in Europe, I had the opportunity to go there. It was very good, I learned a lot, I had help with six Brazilians at Arsenal.

‘For me it was very good. Cruzeiro’s choice was because of the project, an ambitious club, wants to win titles again, also for Diniz. Guy I have enormous affection, who helped me a lot. I think I have a lot to grow with them.

‘At the time of Fluminense, it was the way we did it. Many times I played on the side, more to defend than to attack. I’m a fast, strong guy, who looks for the goal. So, that’s what the fans can expect.’

The lad moved to Europe too early, he was not ready and that is why he is no back in Brazil on loan deals getting back to his best. He must regret making the decision to move to ARSENAL at that early stage of his career.

But who could turn down a move to Arsenal?

DELAP MESSAGE SENT

Gary Lineker has urged ARSENAL to target Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap following their FA Cup exit to Manchester United, as many rumours continue to circle about who the Gunners will sign this January

Mikel Arteta is now facing fresh calls to sign a new forward in the January transfer window after the Gunners squandered several chances during their defeat to United on penalties at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

And add that to the injury that Gabriel Jesus has again picked up, Fans believe that a new forward needs to be signed over the next few weeks if the club are to continue chasing down Liverpool for that Premier League title.

Delap is having a fine season in the Premier League for Ipswich this season and has been linked with a move to both Chelsea and Liverpool in recent weeks, and although his eight goals are not that impressive, his performances have been quality.

Lineker, however, has suggested that Arsenal should identify a striker who offers potential and named 21-year-old Delap, who Ipswich signed for £20m, as a potential option for Arteta’s side.

‘I said it at the beginning of the season, I felt that’s what they [Arsenal] needed and I think that would possibly cost them the league not investing in that position,’ Alan Shearer said during BBC Sport’s post-match analysis of Arsenal’s defeat to United.

Lineker replied: ‘It’s probably been wanting someone for some time a player in that position. ‘Or they could go for a young, up-and-coming one, because once they’re proven you can’t get them, but someone like Delap I see has got a real something about him.”

Delap has shown over the past few weeks that he has the potential to become a deadly striker for one of the top teams in the Premier League, he really is a talent that could be nurtured into the next Harry Kane.

The problem for the lad is that he would be joining a side that would not play him every week, something that he is getting at Ipswich. So if ARSENAL do come calling, the decision could make or break his career.
