Kenya Power issued a customer alert early Wednesday, December 18, 2024, notifying the public of a widespread power outage that affected most parts of the country. The alert, released at 1:28 AM, stated that the outage spared only parts of Western Kenya and the North Rift regions.
The utility company acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the outage and assured its customers that efforts were underway to restore power. However, the cause of the blackout had not yet been determined. Kenya Power urged customers to remain patient as they worked towards restoring normalcy.

By 4:55 AM, Kenya Power released an update confirming that power supply had been restored to several regions, including North Rift, Central Rift, Western Kenya, South Nyanza, and parts of Nairobi and the Mount Kenya areas.
“Our team is diligently working to restore supply to all the remaining areas,” the update read, thanking customers for their patience during the outage.
Kenya Power reiterated its commitment to restoring power fully and pledged to provide further updates as progress continued.
