Christensen – Araujo – Luiz feature in Man United news now

Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews that you may have missed this morning…

Manchester United have shown ‘serious interest’ in signing former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen from Barcelona in January, as Ruben Amorim seeks to improve that defensive area of the pitch

United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has endured a disappointing season so far and Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are all past their best and are players that could be moved on in order to bring in some fresh meat

£52m summer signing Leny Yoro is expected to develop into one of the best defenders in Europe but at 19 cannot yet be relied upon on a consistent basis, and Ruben Amorim is keen to improve that back-line that lets in far too many goals.

That has led to alot of rumours that Amorim will look to delve into that transfer kitty and add a new defender to the side, and Mundo Deportivo say the Premier League and Serie A clubs are showing ‘serious interest’ in a January deal and are not concerned by Christensen’s recent injury lay-off.

Christensen has made over 70 appearances for Barca since joining the Spanish giants on a free transfer in 2022. He made more than 30 appearances during his first season at the Nou Camp to help Barcelona clinch the La Liga title, and over 40 last term.

The 28-year-old has barely featured during the current campaign due to fitness problems but returned to training over the weekend as he looks to get his career back on track.

Why would Manchester United want to sign a player that has barely featured this season? That would probably struggle to handle the pace of the Premier League? It would not be a wise transfer signing to make.

If Amorim wants to sign a defender, there are a number already in the Premier League that could really improve that back-line, we doubt that Christensen could

ARAUJO MESSAGE SENT

Barcelona have again insisted they want to keep Juventus and Manchester United target Ronald Araujo this January window, amid speculation that he could leave the Spanish giants.

Araujo has made over 150 appearances in all competitions for Barca since joining from Uruguayan outfit Boston River for a fee of just £1.5million back in 2017, and has firmly established himself as a regular at the heart of the club’s defence.

A serious hamstring problem meant Araujo missed the first half of this season and he made his long-awaited return in Barca’s 4-0 victory over Barbastro in the Copa del Rey last month, but there has been reports that he is one player that could be moved on.

Barcelona are struggling financially and have been linked with selling a number of players in order to help balance the books, and keep players at the club that they really want to build a future with.

However – despite all the speculation and all the rumours – The La Liga giants President Joan Laporta said of their Uruguayan defender: “We want Ronald to stay.

“We appreciate him very much, both professionally, personally. We have a very direct relationship.

“For some circumstances, which I don’t want to say, he is now talking to the sporting area. There is still room for a solution.”

Ruben Amorim knows that he needs to add another world class defender to that back-line, he knows that having a solid back-line will help get the club challenging for trophies once again.

Araujo would have been a great signing for Manchester United he really is world class, but Barcelona are pretty clear and want to keep the player, so we cant see any move for Araujo happening this month

DOUGLAS LUIZ INTERESTED IN MAN UNITED MOVE

Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz would welcome the possibility of joining Manchester United during the ongoing winter transfer window, despite only making the move to Italian football last summer.

The midfielder was one of Unai Emery’s unsung heroes last term, scoring seven goals and contributing seven assists in all competitions for the Villians as they secured Champions League football

While striker Ollie Watkins may have captured the headlines, Luiz has played a key role in Villa’s success in the Premier League this term, with his performances catching the eye of a lot of big clubs

Luiz was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last year and according to many reports in the media over the past few months, he is still a player that Mikel Arteta would love to add to his squad.

However – According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz would welcome the possibility of joining Manchester United during the ongoing winter transfer window.

TuttoMercatoWeb claim that the player’s agent will travel to Turin to speak with him and his future could be discussed. Luiz is happy to stay with Juventus and would only consider leaving them for a top-level Premier League club such as Man United.

Man United are a work in progress, Ruben Amorim knows that he needs the players that will help the club get back into the habit of Champions League football and competing for that Premier League title.

Douglas Luiz is a very good player, but not really the kind of star that would make a difference in that United side, he has not been that impressive over in Italian football for Juventus.

So even though he would be open to a move to Manchester United, we are sure that Amorim has a list of players that he would like, and Luiz is surely not on it.
