January 14 – The clubs in the Bulgarian Second League are to receive €45,000 in financial assistance. The aid was following a meeting of club owners from the Efbet League (the first tier of football in Bulgaria) and a meeting with the president of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) Georgi Ivanov and the president of the Professional Football League (BPFL) Atanas Karaivanov.
Representatives of the elite clubs united around the opinion that it is necessary to allocate funds to the teams from the Second League, and additional discussions were held on the exact percentage of the funds. According to UEFA’s instructions from this season, the clubs from the top divisions decide whether to allocate funds from UEFA’s solidarity payments to clubs in the second football tier.
“It is important for me that the clubs from the Second League also receive funds, but the final decision is yours, as we are only mediators in the meeting. I want us to find a way to help the teams from the Third League too,” said Ivanov.
The clubs unanimously decided that teams in the Second League would be allocated 20% of the amount of the “share according to the season’s ranking”. A total of €3,601,000 will be distributed. This means that the clubs from Bulgaria’s Second League will receive €45,000 from solidarity payments for the current season, and the clubs from the top tier efbet League will receive €192,000 each.
At the end of the season, funds from solidarity payments from the “share according to sports merits” will also be distributed, but only to clubs in the top tier.
“I am glad that we reached an agreement and a decision so quickly. In some countries, elite clubs meet several times to reach a consensus. I welcome this decision,” said Karaivanov.
