Hoping to find a route back into the automatic promotion spots on Sunday night, Burnley will travel to the Riverside when they meet Middlesbrough.

Starting with the hosts, suffering what was an infamous second-half collapse at home against Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day, Middlesbrough will be desperate to avoid any signs of a hangover here. Eventually forced to settle for a sensational 3-3 stalemate at the Riverside, Michael Carrick’s men are seeking an immediate response on Sunday night. Missing out on a golden opportunity to find a route back into the play-off spots, the former Manchester United coach should be bracing himself for another tricky test on home soil. While Boro might still opening 2025 pencilled in as a leading top-six candidate, they have recorded just a sole win from any of their previous five Championship appearances. Falling to a routine 3-1 loss when they travelled to Leeds earlier in the month, Carrick’s side have also shown some extended defensive issues. It should be noted, Middlesbrough have registered just a sole clean sheet from any of their last 12 consecutive outings – a run that stems all the way back to October 23rd.

As for the visitors, springing what was a major upset on Boxing Day as they claimed a 2-0 win away at Sheffield United, Burnley will be seeking a repeat performance here. With their sights set on clinching an immediate Premier League return in the New Year Scott Parker’s men find the mood in their camp at a real high. Looking to skyrocket themselves back into the automatic promotion spots here, the former Fulham boss has seen his squad win each of their previous three Championship appearances by an aggregate score of 6-2. Likewise, now unbeaten in all of their last 10 consecutive outings – a run that stems back to Number 3rd – Burnley have also continued to shine with their success away from Turf Moor. Including a 2-1 victory against Norwich earlier in the month, the Clarets have won all of their previous four showdowns outside of Lancashire. It should also be noted, Parker’s men claimed a 2-1 win when they last travelled to the Riverside in June of last year.
