The US Division of State has notified Congress of a deliberate $8bn (£6.4bn) arms sale to Israel, an American official has confirmed to the BBC.
The weapons consignment, which wants approval from Home and Senate committees, consists of air-to-air missiles for use in opposition to airborne threats, together with drones, the official mentioned.
