Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Booth, Aaronson, and more

Dutch clubs Excelsior and FC Utrecht booked their places into the next round of the KNVB Cup and two American players had a vital say in their teams’ victories.

Zach Booth scored twice in Excelsior’s 3-1 win over FC Eindhoven while Paxten Aaronson scored once and registered one assist in FC Utrecht’s 8-0 victory over AFC. The young American players delivered key performances for their respective clubs.

Booth, 20, entered the match with zero goals to his name this season, but delivered two to earn Man of the Match honors. The former Leicester City player scored eight minutes apart in the first half to give Excelsior a 2-0 advantage. Excelsior would eventually walk away 3-1 winners.

Aaronson logged 90 minutes for FC Utrecht, taking his goal contribution tally up to eight. The 21-year-old also led all players in fouls drawn (3) and tackles completed (3).

In the Netherlands, Ricardo Pepi also registered a brace in PSV’s cup win.

In Italy, Weston McKennie played 90 minutes in Juventus’ 4-0 Coppa Italia victory over Cagliari. Tim Weah assisted once off of the bench.

Matt Turner, Chris Richards dressed but did not play in Crystal Palace’s 3-2 loss to Arsenal on Wednesday.

Coppa Italia

Weston McKennie started and played 90 minutes in Juventus 4-0 win over Cagliari on Tuesday.

Tim Weah came off the bench, registered ONE ASSIST, and played nine minutes for Juventus.


Netherlands


KNVB Cup

Ricardo Pepi started, scored TWO GOALS, and played 90 minutes in PSV’s 8-0 win over Koninklijke on Tuesday.

Richie Ledezma started and played 76 minutes for PSV.

Malik Tillman dressed but did not play for PSV.

Paxten Aaronson started, scored ONE GOAL, registered ONE ASSIST, and played 90 minutes in FC Utrecht’s 8-0 win over AFC on Wednesday.

Taylor Booth did not dress for FC Utrecht.

Zach Booth started, scored TWO GOALS, and played 69 minutes in Excelsior’s 3-1 win over FC Eindhoven on Tuesday.
